The future is in our hands. The well-being of our children and all future generations depends largely on the investments we make today in two essential areas: the environment and our youth.
At Simmons Investment Advisors, we take this responsibility to heart and action, driven by the same passion and commitment we bring to helping clients achieve their goals. We strive to make an impact through multiple organizations, with an emphasis on promoting environmental sustainability and supporting youth programs where we live and work — in the beautiful area of greater Portland, Maine.
Environment
Our passion for environmental stewardship and sustainable investing dates back well before such terms became well known in our industry. Our founder, Edward Simmons, exemplifies this passion. Before founding the firm, he was a teacher at a private secondary school, where he organized the school’s first Earth Day celebration in 1970.
Today, Ed’s passion is shared by our team and reflected by both our investment approach — which includes aligning client’s values with their portfolio holdings — and community outreach.
Below are non-profit organizations focused on the local environment with which we are involved:
National Resources Council of Maine (NRCM): Dedicated to protecting Maine using the power of science, the law, and voices of people who value Maine’s environment.
Members since 1991
Lake Stewards of Maine: Works to protect Maine lakes and promote lake stewardship through community participation in the gathering and dissemination of information regarding lake health.
Volunteering since 2001
Royal River Conservation Trust: Envisions the Royal River’s communities woven together by accessible rivers, streams, and corridors of conserved land reaching Casco Bay. With a growing population, it is vital that these special places are protected for exploration, learning, growth and nourishment of the soul.
Longstanding members
Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust: Chebeague and Cumberland Land Trust’s mission is to permanently conserve and steward natural resources across our island and mainland communities for the benefit of current and future generations.

Youth Programs
As parents and residents, we witness firsthand the remarkably positive impact youth programs have on our community. We are fortunate to live in school districts that focus on expanding access to these opportunities and are committed to amplifying their efforts. Below are organizations with which we are involved:
Foundation 51: Supports student development in MSAD #51 school district with innovative teaching methods that inspire creativity and passion and encourage social responsibility.
