Community Impact

Building a Sustainable Future

The future is in our hands. The wellbeing of our children and all future generations depends largely on the investments we make today in two essential areas: the environment and our youth.

At Simmons Investment Advisors, we take this responsibility to heart and action, driven by the same passion and commitment we bring to helping clients achieve their goals. We strive to make an impact through multiple organizations, with an emphasis on promoting environmental sustainability and supporting youth programs where we live and work — in the beautiful area of greater Portland, Maine.

Community Involvement Highlights

Environment

Our passion for environmental stewardship and sustainable investing dates back well before such terms became well known in our industry. Our founder, Edward Simmons, exemplifies this passion. Before founding the firm, he was a teacher at a private secondary school, where he organized the school’s first Earth Day celebration in 1970.

Today, Edward’s passion is shared by our team and reflected by both our investment approach — which includes aligning client’s values with their portfolio holdings — and community outreach.

Below are two examples of our commitment to the local environment:

National Resources Council of Maine (NRCM): Dedicated to protecting Maine using the power of science, the law, and voices of people who value Maine’s environment.

  • Managing Director and Partner Edward Simmons has been a member since 1991 and a board member since 2017

  • Managing Director and Partner Michael Simmons has also been a member since 2010

  • Director of Client Service Monica Cormier has been a member since 2008, participating in their Annual Polar Bear Dip since 2004

  • Our team supports NRCM through donations, fundraising, volunteering and awareness building

Lake Stewards of Maine: Works to protect Maine lakes and promote lake stewardship through community participation in the gathering and dissemination of information regarding lake health.

  • Managing Director and Partner Edward Simmons has been volunteering since 2001

  • Our team supports Lake Stewards of Maine through grant matching and awareness building

Royal River Conservation Trust: Envisions the Royal River’s communities woven together by accessible rivers, streams, and corridors of conserved land reaching Casco Bay. With a growing population, it is vital that these special places are protected for exploration, learning, growth and nourishment of the soul.

Youth Programs

As parents and residents in Cumberland and North Yarmouth, we witness firsthand the remarkably positive impact youth programs have on our community. We are fortunate to live in a school district that focuses on expanding access to these opportunities and are committed to amplifying its efforts. Below are two examples:

Foundation 51: Supports student development in MSAD #51 school district with innovative teaching methods that inspire creativity and passion and encourage social responsibility.

  • Managing Director and Partner Michael Simmons is an active board member of Foundation 51

  • Michael Simmons and Stephen Potts are donors and sponsor their annual silent auction
